Today I am going to share with you the best of affordable makeup. Just because something costs more, doesn’t mean it’s better! Click read more to see my picks!
NYX PORE FILLER
If you have large pores like myself, a silicone based primer is a must in your makeup routine. While I haven’t found too many affordable primers that actually do something, I do like the NYX Pore Filler. Similar in texture to the Benefit Porefessional, only more soft & fluffy. I will get a little and rub it between my fingers and press it into my pores rather than rubbing over.
MAX FACTOR FACE FINITY PRIMER
I feel like I’ve mentioned this primer so many times on my blog. It’s the complete opposite texture to the NYX Pore Filler; quite liquidy & sticky. The Face Finity primer is aimed towards making you foundation last longer, I really love it. I’ve gone through multiple bottles.
BOURJOIS HEALTHY MIX FOUNDATION*
This is a great every day foundation with a sheer to medium coverage. It’s a foundation that many skin types can wear. I have oily skin so I wear a good longevity primer underneath and the Bourjois Healthy Mix lasts all day. Click here to read my full review on the new formula of this foundation.
L’OREAL INFALLIBLE 24HR MATTE FOUNDATION
If you have oily skin with large pores, this foundation is a must for you! It is a true matte finish with quite a few silicones in it so it does a great job of minimising the look of pores. My only complaint is the shade range, very minimal. Click here to watch my first impression video on the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte Foundation.
AUSTRALIS FRESH & FLAWLESS POWDER
The first great powder from the drugstore is the Australis Fresh & Flawless powder. This one is apparently quite comparable to the MAC MSF’s however I haven’t tried them yet so I can’t say. The shade range is excellent and it’s a nicely milled powder which also gives you extra coverage. I am not sure if Australis is available overseas as it is an Australian brand.
NYX HD FINISHING POWDER*
As of writing this post, the NYX HD Finishing Powder is not available in Australia which makes me so sad! This was gifted to me at a NYX event and I just adore it! It’s translucent and makes you skin feel oh so soft. Again, finely milled and doesn’t kick up too much powder.
NYX BLUSH IN “TAUPE”
Oh the struggle of being pale and trying to find a good contour shade! The NYX blush in Taupe was popular years ago for contouring but Australia only started selling it a year ago so I thought I must try it. Wow of wow what a great colour for fair complexions! Not warm, a nice cool shade. The packaging is awesome, slim & sleek.
NYX MICRO BROW PENCIL IN “TAUPE”
A recent addition to my makeup collection and currently the only brow pencil I’ve tried that I like. First of all, it’s a mechanical pencil, no sharpening. The product is so tiny (hence “micro”) so you get that perfect thin tail. It has a spoolie on one end. The shade I use is Taupe, great colour for lighter hair.
MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATIONAL
This brand makes the best affordable mascaras, hands down. My favourite is the Lash Sensational. It has a plastic wand as opposed to bristles. It’s in a curved shape which helps lift your lashes. Gives me amazing length & separation. Click here to watch my 2 minute review!
I discovered Sleek blushes a few years ago when watching Fleur de Force. They’re quite inexpensive and have great pigmentation & longevity. My favourite that I own is Rose Gold, almost identical to NARS Orgasm. The packaging of these blushes is just as the name suggests; sleek. There is an added bonus of a mirror.
RIMMEL EXAGGERATE LIP LINER
I was never a big lip liner fan until I tried the Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liners. They are comfortable, they don’t feel like your stabbing your lips! I have 4 shades, my favourite being Addiction. They make your lipstick last so much longer.
NYX SOFT MATTE LIP CREAM
It took me a while to try these as I was scared off by “matte”. Honestly, these would be the most comfortable matte lipstick I have tried. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams dry down to a completely matte finish. Are they transfer proof? Not completely but that doesn’t bother me. The formula is quite moussey and smells devine. They also come in a massive shade selection.
NYX INTENSE BUTTER GLOSS*
You might be familiar with the NYX Butter glosses, well the intense version is just as the name suggests. Very glossy and pigmented. Click here if you would like to read my full review as well as extra swatches.
MAYBELLINE CREAMY MATTE LIPSTICKS*
This whole line is lovely. Every single shade is really nice, the 3 I own are Divine Wine (gorgeous winter shade), Touch of Spice & Lust For Blush. They are creamy & smooth. Very pigmented. The formula is great. Definitely one of the best affordable true matte lipsticks. Click here to read my full review on these lipsticks.
The Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat is AMAZING. The best base coat I’ve tried particularly when used in combination with the Revlon Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat. You will get so much wear out of your manicure. I am currently on day 7 of a manicure and I only have one tiny chip. My nails are quite long at the moment and I find polish chips quicker on them but when I use this combo, perfect. The Revlon top coat is a lovely thick shiny polish that really makes your nails shine.
A couple of great cheap polishes I’ve found are firstly the Color Show range from Maybelline* (Dusty Rose & Crimson Flush). Great little polishes that are opaque and dry really quickly. The other is also from Maybelline from their Super Stay line (Rose Poudre). It has a nice wide brush as well and the formula reminds me of Essie polishes.
Now you might notice I haven’t picked something from every category like I didn’t mention any eyeshadows. That is simply because I haven’t come across an affordable eyeshadow palette that is good. Just my opinion. If you have any affordable favourites, please share them with me!
